Important guidance for temporary workers during the Coronavirus pandemic

The health of clients, partners, employees and candidates is the primary concern of all organisations across the UK. Absolute Personnel have created a guide for temporary workers to ensure they understand the precautions that need to be taken when in the workplace.

How does the virus spread?

The virus spreads from coming into contact with others who have the virus. The spread of the virus occurs when a person with COVID19 coughs, sneezes or exhales. Other people then catch the virus by touching infecting surfaces or objects then touch their mouth or nose.

The virus can also be spread if a person breathes in small droplets from a person who has COVID19.

What steps can I take in the workplace to minimise the likelihood of catching Coronavirus?

Currently, there is no vaccine to prevent or cure COVID19, therefore it is important to carry out social distancing from other people inside and outside of the workplace. It is recommended that workers stay more than 2 meters away from other employees.

Everyday good hygiene practice is also recommended. This includes:

• Washing your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser, throughout the working day.
• Carry tissues in order to catch a cough or sneeze. Bin the tissue once it has been used.
• Wipe down any equipment you may be using during the day, information suggests that the virus can remain on hard surfaces for up to 48 hours.

Your employer should provide hand washing facilities that are well stocked. They many also provide hand sanitiser, tissues and cleaning products around the buildings for staff and visitors. You should also be provided with clear information on the virus using communication channels including posters and emails.

What do I do if I develop symptoms?

If you do start to develop COVID19 symptoms, tell your employer immediately and then go home.

If the unwell person lives alone, they must self-isolate for 7 days. If they live with others and is the first to have symptoms, they must self-isolate for 7 days. Everyone else in their household must self-isolate for 14 days.
